Transcend Cruises has officially launched the MS Connect, marking the introduction of the first river cruise ship engineered entirely for the private charter and group market. The vessel recently completed its maiden voyage from Dordrecht to Zaandam following a formal christening ceremony attended by travel industry professionals, investors, and regional officials. Unlike conventional river cruise ships that sell individual cabins to the public, this vessel operates on a strict business-to-business model, allowing organizations to secure the entire ship for private conferences, meetings, and corporate events.
The official launch took place in Dordrecht, where Marja van Bijsterveldt, the former Dutch Minister of Education, Culture, and Science, served as the ship’s godmother alongside Hardinxveld-Giessendam Mayor Dirk Heijkoop. According to Gregg Marston, CEO of Transcend Cruises, the vessel was engineered specifically to bridge the gap between traditional land-based event venues and maritime travel, providing a highly customizable platform tailored to the exact specifications of modern event planners.
Built by the Netherlands-based Den Breejen Shipyard, the 135-meter vessel accommodates up to 120 guests across 60 modular cabins. These staterooms feature a flexible configuration that allows them to be converted into 30 larger two-room suites depending on the needs of the group. The layout includes five multifunctional public spaces designed to host workshops, presentations, and networking sessions. To facilitate corporate programming, the ship is outfitted with integrated audiovisual technology, high-speed internet connectivity, and digital assets designed for customized organizational branding. Tillberg Design of Sweden oversaw the interior design, while United Waterways manages daily maritime operations.
The engineering of the MS Connect emphasizes regional sustainability standards through circular design principles and low-emission maritime technology. The ship utilizes electric maneuvering systems for docking and relies on heavy-duty battery packs instead of traditional diesel generators to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Additionally, a shallow draft design allows the vessel to navigate European inland waterways reliably, even during seasonal periods of low water levels.
The onboard facilities feature an adaptable culinary program ranging from formal dining to regional menus, alongside a 240-square-meter wellness and fitness center. The launch of the MS Connect represents the initial phase of a broader regional expansion for Transcend Cruises, which aims to grow its fleet to four vessels by 2028 with the planned additions of the MS Evolve, MS Create, and MS Engage. The company’s long-term strategy outlines a fleet of twelve specialized charter vessels operating across the Rhine, Danube, Moselle, and the inland waterways of Belgium and the Netherlands.
