The Imperial New Delhi has been named India’s No. 1 hotel in the Condé Nast Traveller UK Readers’ Choice Awards 2026, earning a score of 99.89 out of 100. The recognition places the historic property among the world’s leading hotels, following its recent award of two Michelin Keys.
The annual Readers’ Choice Awards are based on responses from travellers and readers. According to the hotel, the 2026 awards attracted more than 296,000 responses from readers across the United Kingdom. Louis Sailer, senior executive vice president of The Imperial New Delhi, said the recognition reflected the dedication of the hotel’s team, as well as the continued support of its guests, owners and international clientele.
“Being named No. 1 Hotel in India by the Condé Nast Traveller UK Readers’ Choice Awards 2026, with an exceptional score of 99.89/100 — the highest score awarded to any hotel in the world — is a moment of immense pride for The Imperial New Delhi,” Sailer said. He added that the award recognised the team’s commitment to service and hospitality.
A landmark in New Delhi since 1936
Opened in 1936, The Imperial is located on Janpath in the heart of India’s capital. The hotel combines Victorian, Art Deco and Lutyens’ architectural influences and is set within eight acres of landscaped gardens.
Its interiors feature marble colonnades, hand-knotted Persian carpets and a collection of more than 5,500 original works of art, including pieces dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The property also has a place in India’s modern history: Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Lord Mountbatten were among the historical figures associated with the hotel during the years surrounding Partition.
The latest award adds to a series of recent distinctions for the property. In addition to its two Michelin Keys, The Imperial was named Best City Hotel in India at the inaugural Tatler Best India 2026 awards and is featured in the World’s 50 Best Discovery.
The hotel is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and participates in Virtuoso, American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts and Serandipians.
The Condé Nast Traveller UK Readers’ Choice Awards 2026 are featured on the publication’s website and in its November issue.
