At an Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders of KLM, Mathieu Essenberg was appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) and member of KLM’s Board of Managing Directors. His appointment will take effect on August 1, 2026, for a term of four years, until the close of the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in 2031.
With the completion of the formal appointment procedure, KLM’s Board of Managing Directors is composed as follows: Marjan Rintel (President & CEO), Bas Brouns (Chief Financial Officer), Miriam Kartman (Chief People Officer), and Mathieu Essenberg (Chief Operating Officer).
Mathieu Essenberg has already served as interim COO in recent months. He has been with KLM since 2002 and has held various management positions in, among others, Flight Operations, KLM Cityhopper, Hub Operations, and Engineering & Maintenance. Mathieu is also an active pilot, first at KLM Cityhopper and later at KLM. Since 2017, he has been a captain on the Boeing 737.
