MANCHESTER, UK — Golden Eagle Luxury Trains has announced its return to China with the launch of the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express, marking the company’s first operational presence in the region since 2019.
The announcement comes amid record-high demand for ultra-luxury rail travel in Asia and Central Asia. According to the operator, all departures for 2026 are completely sold out, with 2027 itineraries already standing at 95% capacity.
The inaugural 13-day voyage, Undiscovered Horizons of China, is scheduled to depart on September 12, 2026. Traveling from Urumqi to Lhasa, the route traverses western China and the high-altitude landscapes of Tibet (Xizang).
Transcontinental Silk Road Itinerary
As part of its post-Trans-Siberian strategic shift, the operator is introducing The Grand Silk Road, a 22-to-25-day flagship itinerary spanning five countries: China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The journey connects two of the company’s luxury trains—the Golden Eagle Express and the newly introduced Golden Eagle Silk Road Express—to trace the historic trade routes, stopping at multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites and high-altitude mountain passes.
Given the scarcity of five-star luxury hotel infrastructure across parts of Central Asia, the mobile hotel concept allows the operator to funnel high-net-worth travelers into emerging tourism markets while maintaining international luxury standards.
