The Board of InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) today announced the appointment of Mr. William “Willie” Walsh as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective August 3, 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. He is still Director-General of IATA, and will be until july 31st when his tenure ends.
Mr. Walsh will succeed the leadership team following the recent departure of Pieter Elbers. Mr. Elbers, the former KLM President and CEO, led the Indian low-cost carrier through a significant period of international expansion before stepping down from his role.

Mr. Walsh currently serves as the Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), a position he will hold until July 31, 2026. His career is marked by some of the most influential roles in modern aviation, including:
