Radisson RED Oslo City Centre opened as Verified Net Zero Hotel

Radisson Hotel Group announced today the opening of the Radisson RED Oslo City Centre, a Verified Net Zero hotel. It’s one of the first two hotels in the world to be certified with this status, setting a new standard for sustainable hospitality.

Located in the heart of Oslo, the newly transformed property, formerly a Park Inn by Radisson, has 118 redesigned guest rooms and vibrant social spaces. The hotel’s bold, playful take on Scandinavian minimalism is on full display with rich dark wood and striking red and black tones.

Pioneering a New Era of Sustainable Travel

The hotel’s Verified Net Zero status, confirmed by independent third party TÜV Rheinland, means the property has eliminated energy-related emissions (Scope 1 and 2) and significantly minimized operational emissions (Scope 3), with any remaining emissions compensated for.

“Pioneering the first two Verified Net Zero hotels is a significant milestone for Radisson Hotel Group,” said Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer. “By transforming hotels in operation to Verified Net Zero status, we are demonstrating that Net Zero conversion hotels are not only possible, they are essential. We must move quickly to transform existing properties.”

Guests at the Radisson RED Oslo City Centre will see this commitment in action through several key initiatives:

  • 100% Renewable Energy: The hotel uses only renewable sources for heating, cooling, and electricity, including Oslo’s city district heating system, which is powered by sustainable sources like waste-to-energy and data center heat recovery.

  • Low-Carbon Menus: In partnership with the Swedish company Klimato, the hotel’s menu features seasonal ingredients, with some recipes having a carbon footprint reduced by up to 40% without compromising on flavor.

  • Minimal Waste: The hotel uses food waste tracking software and partners with Too Good To Go to sell surplus food on a community app. It also has widespread recycling infrastructure, including glass water bottles and Nespresso pod recycling.

  • A commitment to plastic reduction: The hotel has switched to bulk bathroom amenities and plastic-free dry amenities.

The hotel also compensates for its remaining emissions by partnering with Agreena, supporting farmers who use regenerative practices on more than 4.5 million hectares of European farmland.

A Hub for Design, Connection, and Exploration

In true Radisson RED style, the hotel blends high-end design with a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere. The restaurant, bar, and lounge areas are designed to encourage community and connection. For business or leisure travelers, the hotel also offers a renovated gym and six versatile meeting rooms with modern audiovisual equipment and high-speed Wi-Fi.

“Radisson RED Oslo City Centre, A Verified Net Zero Hotel, demonstrates that energy-efficient transformations are possible for existing buildings,” said Tom Flanagan Karttunen, COO of Leased Hotels for Radisson Hotel Group. “We aim to provide memorable experiences that support guests’ expectations for responsible stays, with every aspect—from design to service.”

The hotel is a short walk from some of Oslo’s most famous landmarks, including the Oslo Opera House, the Munch Museum, and the Royal Palace Gardens, making it a perfect base for exploring the city.

The opportunity to stay in a Verified Net Zero hotel allows guests to be part of a forward-thinking movement that combines comfort and innovation with sustainability.
