Marriott completes 355 million $ acquisition of Dutch citizenM

Marriott International announced that it has finalized the 355 million $ acquisition of citizenM, a fast-growing Dutch based lifestyle hotel brand known for its tech-forward hospitality and distinctive design. The move marks a significant step in Marriott’s strategy to expand its global select-service offerings and appeal to the next generation of travelers.

citizenM currently operates 37 hotels comprising 8,789 rooms across more than 20 cities worldwide, including key locations in the United States, Europe, and Asia Pacific. Two additional properties, totaling more than 300 rooms, are in the development pipeline and are expected to join Marriott’s portfolio in the near future.

“As travelers continue to seek innovative lodging offerings that blend technology with genuine, people-first hospitality, the citizenM brand is the perfect addition to our portfolio,” said Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott International. “Marriott has proven success in growing select-service lifestyle offerings, including our AC, Moxy, and Aloft brands, and we look forward to accelerating citizenM’s global reach with our guests and Marriott Bonvoy members around the world.”

With the acquisition complete, Marriott will begin integrating citizenM properties into its systems and platforms, a process expected to conclude later this year. Until then, citizenM hotels will continue to be available through the brand’s existing digital channels. Current members of citizenM’s subscription program will continue receiving benefits during the transition, with updates on loyalty integration expected in the coming months.

Once integration is finalized, citizenM will become a fully participating brand in Marriott Bonvoy, the company’s global loyalty program, giving members additional options and value in key urban destinations.

Founded in 2008, citizenM is recognized for its innovative use of space, contemporary art and design, and high-tech in-room features. The brand caters to value-conscious travelers seeking efficient, comfortable, and connected accommodations. Common amenities include smart rooms, flexible work and social spaces, creative meeting areas, and rooftop lounges.

The acquisition reinforces Marriott’s commitment to delivering modern, experience-driven lodging across a broad spectrum of price points and travel preferences.
