KLM adds Hyderabad to network

The first KLM flight from Amsterdam has arrived in Hyderabad, India. On September 2, KLM launched its direct flights between Amsterdam and Hyderabad, making this city the fourth Indian destination in the KLM network, alongside Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. KLM will operate three weekly flights to this new destination using a Boeing 777-200ER.

The arrival of the inaugural flight was celebrated in Hyderabad, as was the departure of the first flight to Amsterdam. Festivities at the airport included a traditional Indian dance performance. Representing KLM, a delegation led by KLM COO Maarten Stienen is present in Hyderabad to commemorate the launch of this new route together with local partners and invited guests.

Hyderabad: Pharmaceutical and technology hub

Hyderabad, the capital of the Indian state of Telangana, has a population of over 7 million and is experiencing above-average economic growth. The city is internationally known as the “Pharmaceutical Capital of India,” with more than 800 pharmaceutical companies based in the region. In addition, numerous American and European IT companies are active in the area. Hyderabad Airport is the fourth busiest airport in India, after Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, and is showing rapid growth in passenger traffic. Thanks to its central location in southern India and extensive domestic connections via partner airline IndiGo, the city serves as a major business and logistics hub.

“India is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and an important trading partner for the Netherlands and the EU. Over the past few years, the number of passengers traveling between Amsterdam and India has almost doubled. By adding Hyderabad as a new and important business destination in India, KLM is expanding its network to meet this growing demand.”

Maarten Stienen, COO of KLM
