New data from BCD Travel reveals a significant gap between traveler safety concerns and their awareness of available corporate support. While 86% of business travelers feel safe in managed hotel programs, a third of respondents are unsure where to find their company’s emergency protocols.
According to the survey of over 1,200 travelers, transportation accidents (37%) and health emergencies (35%) remain the top anxieties. These concerns are already shifting traveler behavior, with 11% of respondents admitting they have canceled trips due to safety fears.
Key Friction Points
The report highlights that even when organizations provide robust Travel Risk Management (TRM) tools, communication remains a hurdle:
-
30% of travelers do not know who to contact during an emergency.
-
18% hesitate to seek help, fearing their situation isn’t “serious enough.”
-
25% seek third-party information rather than using internal company resources during an incident.
The Role of Managed Travel
Despite these anxieties, the “managed” environment provides a clear sense of security. Ride-hailing and traditional taxis are viewed as safe by 70% of travelers, and the majority of respondents (66%) rate their employer’s support during incidents as high or very high.
“Travelers want clarity, not complexity,” says Jorge Mesa, Senior Director of TRM at BCD. The study suggests that while 24/7 support and roaming-enabled phones are standard, the most sought-after feature is pre-departure destination information, currently available to only 38% of those surveyed.
