The Hague is welcoming the spring season in style, combining the reopening of the renovated Scheveningen boulevard with a vibrant program of events across the city. Just ahead of the Easter weekend, on Thursday, April 2, the Scheveningen boulevard will officially reopen. Throughout April and May, a series of events including KidsFest, KijkduinFest and SummerFest will follow. In The Hague, visitors do not have to choose between city and coast — here, both can be experienced in a single day.
A major highlight this beach season is the transformation of the Scheveningen boulevard. Along a stretch of 600 meters, the seaside section between De Pier and Museum Beelden aan Zee has been redesigned to be greener, wider and more seamlessly connected to the beach. Beneath the natural stone surface lies future-proof craftsmanship, featuring smart solutions for cables, pipelines and rainwater management. Beach pavilions have been repositioned, creating more space for public events and visitors.
A striking new feature is the grand staircase near the Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus, which also provides a new prominent location for the ‘Leger en Vloot’ monument. Originally unveiled in 1921 by Queen Wilhelmina, the monument now returns to the boulevard in a renewed and highly visible setting more than a century later. In addition, all “Sprookjesbeelden aan Zee” sculptures have been restored to their original locations.
The festive season begins on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 with the free event KidsFest aan Zee in Scheveningen. This family-focused event will feature music, sports, games and entertainment for children and their families. Performers include Fenna Ramos, Juf Roos and POPZ, and all children will take part in the “Haagse shuffle.” The event marks not only the opening of the beach season, but also the celebratory launch of the renewed boulevard. In May, additional events such as the European Robotic League, a Hague Freedom Meal by the sea and Aircooled Scheveningen will take place.
Festivities will continue along the coast in early May with the launch of KijkduinFest on May 2. This multi-weekend festival highlights Kijkduin as a family-friendly seaside destination with a diverse program of culture, sports and music. During the opening weekend, the area will transform into a lively festival ground, with performances by local dance and music schools, followed by live music and DJ sets. Visitors can also enjoy food and drinks offered by local entrepreneurs.
On Sunday, May 10, the Trail Kijkduin event will take place, organized by Haag Atletiek. Various trails will be available for children, beginners and experienced runners, taking participants through the beach, dunes and the Ockenburgh area. The day will focus on sport and enjoyment, featuring a festive atmosphere with a DJ, medals and a joint celebration for all participants.
From May 23 to May 25, the connection between city and beach will be further emphasized during SummerFest. Taking place over the Pentecost weekend, The Hague’s city center will come alive with summer-themed experiences centered around fashion, music and leisure. For four days, visitors can enjoy live music, performances, stylish shopping and a wide variety of food and drinks. From street musicians to energetic DJs, the city will be filled with vibrant summer energy.
