Oceania Cruises has officially released the itinerary schedule for the maiden season of its newest vessel, Oceania Sonata, marking the beginning of a new class of ships for the luxury line. The 1,390-guest ship is scheduled to debut in August 2027, with bookings for the inaugural season set to open to the general public on January 28, 2026.
The inaugural season includes 22 separate sailings scheduled through April 2028. These voyages will cover more than 90 destinations across Europe, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. The ship’s first official journey is slated to depart from Rome on August 7, 2027, embarking on a 14-day tour that concludes in Trieste, Italy, with stops in Malta, Greece, Montenegro, and Croatia.
As the first of four planned Sonata Class vessels, the ship introduces several new features for the brand. Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises, noted that the premiere of this ship sets a specific tone for the company’s evolution, focusing on geographic variety and expanded freedom for travelers to explore ports through overnight stays and longer days ashore.
The European segment of the season will see the ship visiting major hubs such as Barcelona, Athens, and Lisbon, as well as smaller ports like Palamós in Spain and Sarandë in Albania. To facilitate deeper cultural immersion, the line has scheduled overnight stays in several key cities, including Istanbul, Bordeaux, and Livorno.
Following its time in the Mediterranean, Oceania Sonata will reposition to Miami to begin a series of tropical voyages. These itineraries include traditional Caribbean stops like Barbados and Tortola, alongside Latin American destinations such as Zihuatanejo, Mexico, and Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala. A notable highlight of the Americas season is a daylight transit of the Panama Canal.
Onboard, the vessel emphasizes a heavy focus on culinary offerings, maintaining a staff ratio of one chef for every eight guests. Half of the 855-member crew is dedicated specifically to culinary operations. The ship will feature 13 dining venues, including two new concepts: Nikkei Kitchen, which blends Japanese and Peruvian flavors, and La Table, a fine-dining restaurant endorsed by the Maîtres Cuisiniers de France.
In addition to the dining enhancements, the ship introduces new social and educational spaces. These include the Opus Lounge, an expanded Baristas café, and a specialized digital learning center. This launch represents the first step in a long-term expansion for the cruise line, which has three additional Sonata Class ships scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2035.
