Legendary Hotel Des Indes reopens after renovation

The iconic Hotel Des Indes has reopened following a six-month renovation, restoring its status as one of The Hague’s most prestigious landmarks.

Since 1881, the former city palace on Lange Voorhout has been synonymous with elegance and grandeur. The renovation was a careful upgrade rather than a radical overhaul, designed to modernize facilities while preserving the hotel’s historic character.

Key changes include fully refurbished rooms and suites – including the Presidential Suites – redesigned public areas, and updated climate control and in-room technology. The Lounge now features a refreshed color scheme, while the bar, lobby, restaurant and salons have been reimagined to blend 19th-century atmosphere with modern comfort.

In October, the hotel will debut a new Champagne Lounge in the former cigar room, expected to become a high-end hotspot in The Hague.

“Des Indes is not a museum,” said General Manager Yvonne van der Klaauw. “It is a place where people meet, where stories are created, and where history lives on.”

With 92 rooms and suites, seven event salons, and a long tradition of welcoming royalty and statesmen, Hotel Des Indes continues to serve both international guests and locals with fine dining, its renowned High Tea, and luxury stays.
